What are Climate Vouchers?

Climate Vouchers are part of a program in Singapore called the Climate Friendly Households Programme. They work like money vouchers, helping people buy energy-saving appliances and water-efficient plumbing fixtures for their homes.

The aim is to encourage eco-friendly products, which can save money on utility bills and help the environment by using less energy and water. Eligible households living in 1-, 2-, or 3-room HDB flats in Singapore can receive up to 3 e-Vouchers.

These vouchers are obtained online after logging in with SingPass and filling out a form. They are sent by SMS and can be used at specific stores by showing the voucher and an ID card. The program is expected to significantly reduce water usage and carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable future for Singapore.

Has the Climate Voucher Scheme Expanded to Cover All HDB Households?

Starting from April 15, HDB households will receive S$300 in climate vouchers, which they can use to buy energy- and water-saving appliances like air-conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines.

This expansion of the Climate Friendly Households Programme, disclosed by Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Amy Khor, during a parliamentary budget debate on March 4, extends benefits to all 1.1 million HDB households, including new flat owners receiving keys by 2027.

These vouchers, valid until December 31, 2027, will come in S$2, S$5, S$10, and S$50, offering more flexibility in purchasing decisions. The enhanced program aims to encourage households to adopt energy- and water-efficient options, ultimately reducing utility bills and contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Dr. Khor emphasized that the 10 types of products covered under the expanded program account for a significant portion of household electricity and water consumption. With over 141,000 households registered for the vouchers as of January 2024 and approximately 54,000 vouchers already utilized, there's a positive shift towards eco-conscious choices.

Claiming the vouchers is a simple process. Starting April 15, HDB residents can access them via RedeemSG using their Singpass accounts. These vouchers can be redeemed at participating retailers, making it easier for households to embrace energy-efficient appliances and contribute to a greener future.
